Hard to Remove Bugs

mouse traps for pest management

Finding an uninvited guest of the insect-kind in your home can be a nightmare, especially because there could be more lurking out of sight! Nobody wants to be faced with an infestation of bugs that are particularly nasty to remove, so it is important to undertake measures to avoid an infestation in the first place.

As the professionals in pest management in Perth, we’ve seen it all! So, we’ve put together our top tips to help you avoid these pesky creepy crawlies in the first place, and the signs that will signal if these bugs have decided to move in with you.

German Cockroaches

You have more than likely seen the German cockroach; he’s the common household cockroach that will sneak into your home, often hidden in your belongings and clothing. Unfortunately, all it takes is one cockroach egg for things to escalate to a full home infestation, so it is important to know what to look out for to avoid an invasion.

Cockroaches normally roam around at night, so the sight of one of them during the daylight may indicate there is already a severe infestation!

Cleanliness is Next to Godliness

Keeping your kitchen and meal preparation areas clean is a vital component to keeping a pest free home, as crumbs, spills and food remnants are an invitation to pests such as cockroaches. Make sure you:

  • Regularly empty your rubbish and clean your rubbish bin;
  • Clean your appliances appropriately after use;
  • Clean any food spills on bench tops or kitchen floors;
  • Scrub, dry and put away dishes and cutlery after use; and
  • Appropriately store any leftover food in airtight containers and put them away in the pantry, fridge or freezer.

If you do believe you have an infestation on your hands, it is important to do a quick check of the house to ascertain where the pests may be hiding! Crevices, such as spaces behind stoves and sinks, furniture, electrical outlets and food storage areas may be a wonderful place to hide. Once you’ve done that, it is time to call The Pest Guys.

Bed Bugs

Just the name of these insects is enough to make you squeamish. Adult bed bugs are the size of an apple seed, are dark reddish brown in colour and feed on human blood. These bugs mainly hide in mattresses, but can also be found on bed frames and in bedside furniture!

Warning Signs

You may discover the infestation through:

  • Physically seeing a live bed bug, or its shed skin or eggs,
  • Dark stains on your sheets or pillowcases from blood or bed bug excrement; or
  • You may be unlucky enough to discover an infestation after encountering small bite marks on your skin, which may become red and swollen, with an itching and burning sensation.

Bedbugs are difficult to get rid of; they hide well AND repopulate incredibly fast. An initial treatment may not be enough to rid you of an infestation – their eggs are notoriously resistant to a lot of treatments, but thankfully The Pest Guys know just how to get rid of the pesky bed buggers.

Avoid an Infestation

  • Regularly check and clean your bedding, including your sheets, mattress and crevices under and around your bed;
  • If you have people staying over, check they haven’t recently found any unexplained bites;
  • Regularly vacuum to remove any bugs, shed skins or eggs;
  • If you go travelling, do a quick inspection of wherever you are staying to avoid any nasty surprises;
  • If you have recently been travelling, inspect your suitcase, and wash your belongings and clothing as soon as you return home;

If you do think you have an infestation, there’s very little you can do to treat the problem at home – so call in Perth’s pest management professionals at The Pest Guys it’s time immediately.

Animated movies like Stuart Little and Ratatouille might give you a temporary illusion that rodents aren’t pests, but the reality is that rats have a great interest in your home and kitchen, and they love nothing more than getting stuck into your panty to enjoy all the goods on offer.

Signs of infestation:

  • Droppings around food packaging, cupboards, sinks, appliances;
  • Chew marks or bite packages on food packaging;
  • Holes in walls and floors, likely creating an entry and exit point from your home;
  • Pieces of nesting materials around the kitchen, e.g. paper or fabric; and
  • Unexplained stale smells.

The best way to discourage rats and mice from picking your home for their holiday house; seal off any holes to or from your house and remove any sources of food they may have access to.

While we encourage everyone to take preventative measures around their home to keep our any unwanted, hard to remove guests, we understand that sometimes these pests can take over quickly!
